5th Annual Art In The Hood
Tour returns Feb. 2, 2007

DALLAS, TEXAS (Dec. 12, 2006) – The ‘hood comes alive Saturday, February 3, 2007 with the fifth annual Art in the Hood Studio Tour & Sale, a self-guided tour of 11 diverse artists’ studios in Dallas’ Pleasant Grove, Urbandale and Parkdale neighborhoods. Hours are 11:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. The studio tour is free and visitors of all ages are welcome.

Art in the Hood showcases the work of artists living in the southeast quadrant of Dallas, along with an array of guest artists. Original works on display will range from pottery, stained and blown glass to painting, fiber arts, sculpture, jewelry, photography, furniture and more.

Maps to the studios south of Interstate 30 and east of Fair Park are available at the Art in the Hood web site, www.artinthehood.com. The site also has information about the individual artists and photographs of their work.

New to the tour this year is Ruben Glaucier. Studio R, located in Balch Springs, features murals, tiles, and wall-reliefs. Classically trained as a tenth generation European master craftsman, Mr. Glaucier works in a myriad of materials such as stone, wood, and ceramic creating unique classical and contemporary designs.

BA Glassworks, studio of glass artist Brad Abrams, invites several guests including Leila Strauch, glass-fusing artist from Brazil. Deanne Eskridge and Chris Lake will conduct glass-blowing demonstrations throughout the day. Rene Lowery, metal sculptor, will complete the line-up at BA Glassworks, located off Hwy. 175 & I-20/635.

Clustered within the Urbandale and Parkdale areas are several diverse artists. Longtime resident Nancy Thompson will show her whimsical and intricate mosaic glasswork. The multi-talented studios of Valery Guignon & Robin Hawke feature fiber art and sculpture, along with the altered photography of guest Patricia Dillingham. Across the road is Urban Art Studio, studio of bronze and assemblage sculptor Laura Abrams. Also exhibiting at this stop will be mixed media artist Rita Barnard, and the colorful enameled glass and handmade beads of Rasoul Khaliq, “The Sunshine Man”. Robyn Lark Wakefield returns to the tour this year with her vibrant paintings and jewelry at her Parkdale studio.

Nearby, in an area that once was the original pecan grove of ‘the Grove’ with its lovely hills and trees, is the photography studio of Roy Cirigliana. A photography instructor in the DFW area for many years, Mr. Cirigliana’s unique brand of infrared photography and welded steel frames are at once sensitive and rugged.

Heading south, off Lake June, is the ceramic studio of Mark Epstein whose ceramics are beautiful as well as functional, featuring deep, textured tones. Mr. Epstein, who is also an instructor in ceramics, has been collected widely because of his high quality and style.

Continuing southeast, across from Samuell Crawford Memorial Park, finds the talent of Niyada Crossland. Classically trained in Thailand, Ms. Crossland will exhibit her elegant and contemporary paintings. She invites guest jewelry artist Kimberly Washington.

Situated along the I-30 corridor, Providence Pottery, studio of Carl Spoto presents his charming and practical designs as well as art glass lamps and woodwork by Larry Pile.

Also along I-30 is the studio of sculptor Michael van Enter. Originally from South Africa, his unusual blend of hammered copper and cast bronze will be paired with the surreal, dream-inspired paintings of Monique Jannette. For more information call 214-232-2206 or visit www.artinthehood.com.
